Employee Advocacy Through Social Media

Whenever you think about employee advocacy, what’s the first thing that puts up? Most of you might say it is someone who works for a specific company that promotes their employee. What I learned about employee advocacy through chapter 15 is that it’s just as important as promoting the company or product through social media. Let’s dive in deeper with learning about employee advocacy through social media.

“Employee advocacy is part of word-of-mouth marketing that leverages the trust that consumers have
for family and friends. In fact, consumers feel more invested and connected to a brand or product when hearing from people who drive it.” (Charello, Chapter 15, Section 1). With employees marketing their company’s brand or product, not only will it get out to a bigger audience, but it will also be a trusted source since that person speaking on the company’s brand or product works for that establishment. By doing this, companies allow their employees to have total power to share companies’ messages to get that higher engagement level and attention from a bigger audience. Employee advocacy is beneficial and good things come out of it and here’s why. Having employee advocacy with social media will maintain a greater reach. Some facts to prove it is “People are 16x more likely to read a social media post from a friend than from a brand” (Charello, Chapter 15, Section 2). Another fact that backs this statement is “81 percent of people would rather see a friend’s social post than a brand’s” (Charello, Chapter 15, Section 2). Employee advocacy also increased brand engagement and business. Companies that have good employee advocacy will not only gain a bigger audience but will also gain revenue. Employee advocacy benefits not only a company or business but also has benefited those who work for that company/business. One of the benefits is career growth. “86 percent of employee advocates say being involved in social media has positively impacted their career” (Charello, Chapter 15, Section 5). Being an employee advocate will also benefit you with network growth, incentives, grow personal growth, and increase employee engagement. Being an employee advocate for your company through social media won’t just benefit your company, but will also help benefit yourself as well!
